Limitless God

February 13, 2018

We are introduced to a story in 2 Kings 4:1-7, about a widow whose husband has died, and the creditors are coming for her sons. In those times, the law of Moses allowed a creditor to enslave people to work off a debt. The widow’s husband was a member of the group of prophets who served and studied under Elisha.

The widow cried out to Elisha for help and he asked her “how can I help you “Tell me, what do you have in your house”. Her reply, “your servant has nothing there at all, she said “excerpt a little oil”. The widow said “excerpt a little oil” because she did not see it as a source of solution to her problem. She did not have any regard for her oil because it was commonly use for cooking, for lamps and for fuel. Even though the oil was her ticket to breakthrough she did not see it as something valuable.

Just like the widow many at times we despise what we have. We serve a limitless God who can do the impossible. And Elisha said to her “go around and ask all your neighbors for empty jars. Then go inside and shut the door behind you and your sons. Pour oil into all the jars and as each is filled put it to one side”. Don't reveal to others prematurely what God has instructed you to do until you have followed through to ensure its manifestation. Beware of dream "killers." The number of jars the widow collected from her neighbors was indicative of her faith. Indeed, God will bless you according to your faith.

There are three components to everybody’s breakthrough and blessing: God component, people component and your own component.

God component: Elisha gave the directives he receive from God to the widow. The widow followed the directives and received her breakthrough.

People component: there is a saying by John Donne “no man is an island”. Your success, breakthrough, blessing and everything in between will involve someone.

Your own component: people have a notion of waiting on God for a miracle, but God doesn’t operate like that. There is a part for you to play in getting your breakthrough, just like the widow she followed all the directives Elisha gave her.

God can create a better life for you, but you must be willing to be involve in the process. God is with you and He can transform your limited into limitless.
